Design a motorcycle boot that is both protective on the road for riders and comfortable for hiking on trails and daily use.
Adhere to Dainese's aesthetic and form and design language while still being functional and comfortable.
The boot design was inspired by Dainese's aesthetics and fuction for the long hard rides to the trailhead. The boot needs to be up to the standards of a dual sport motorcycle boot and keep the rider safe both on and off the road.
The boot also needs to be functional as a hiking boot. It needs to be durable but also comfortable to travese terrain impassible by bike.
Alta Via in Latin means "The High Road". The design should allow the user to be able to cross any kind of terrain either by foot or by bike, making sure to keep them safe on every adventure.
To help understand the market of both hiking and motorcycle boots, I sketched existing boots to see what features they had and what features they lacked.
I pulled out key features from the sketches and combined them into a final concept sketches. I wanted to have aspects from both popular hiking boots and dual sport motorcycle boots such as durable soles for unexpected slides as well as breathable mesh for ventilation.
I created an overlay of the boot to show the structure and ensure it fit to the foot anatomy.
Next, I created a sketch on the overlay for the final design of the boot before creating the tech pack.
I enjoyed exploring both branding and blending for this project. It was a challnege to think about how to make a boot flexible for the trail and durable for the road.
I honed in my skills in Adobe Illustrator and learned the basics on creating tech packs.
